SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE DEVOTIONAL FOR MAY 5, 2023 (WE ARE FAITHLESS, BUT GOD IS FAITHFUL)
TOPIC: WE ARE FAITHLESS, BUT GOD IS FAITHFUL
Opening Prayer: Oh Lord, fill me with the power of the Holy Ghost as I study your word.
Scripture: Romans 3:1-8
Question(s) for Reflection• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?• Q 7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?
MESSAGE
Today’s passage reveals to us God’s faithfulness that makes Him to be justified in His actions (vs.1-4). He followed up the question in 3:3 with the powerful words of 3:4a: “God forbid!” This means that God is faithful to His Word. Men may break their promises, but God will never fail to keep His word (v.4b). He will save those who believe and judge those who refuse to believe (cf. Psalm 51:4).
We are unrighteous, but God is righteous (vs.5-8). If God refused to judge sin, He would cease to be God (v.6). Our unfaithfulness will not nullify God’s faithfulness.
The greatest advantage of being a Jew was the exposure to the Old Testament from infancy. Similarly, one of the great privileges one could have is being raised in a Christian home. As believers, God has entrusted us with the Scriptures. Parents should make sharing Christ with their children a top priority in life more than leaving various properties for them.
Practice/Word ApplicationReflection: How has God been faithful to you even when you have been unfaithful to Him (2 Timothy 2:13)?
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing PrayerDear Lord, in light of your faithfulness and judgment, help me to be faithful to you.
