SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: EXODUS 9: 13-35
QUESTION FOR REFLECTION
• Q 5: Is there any warning for me to heed?
According to the proverb, “Heavy clouds warn the deaf of impending storm, and thunder rumbles to warn the blind.” Pharaoh and his people were fully warned of what was coming and could not plead ignorance (vs.18-19).
Even then some refused to heed the warning (v.21). Sadly, the situation has not changed; and, as Jesus Christ predicted, people today are as careless as those in the days of Noah (Matthew 24:36-39).
People often ask why the loving God would raise up Pharaoh in order to destroy him (v.16). It is important to remember that every decision which Pharaoh made came from the heart of Pharaoh and was not decided for him by God.
God could have obliterated him with instant, final judgment for his rebellion (v.15),
but He chose a different course of action. Instead of wiping him out together with his people, God raised him up for a particular purpose.
The punishment was severe, but was limited in scope.
God intended it as a message to all the world from then until now (v.16). The question is whether or not we too would heed the warning (Hebrews 2:3)!
What now? Make a list of people known to you who are living lives of careless ease and pray for them to heed God’s warning.
