Topic: The Kingdom Is Not An Outward Show

Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, grant me understanding and illumination as I ponder on your word in Jesus name.

Scripture: Luke 17:20‐37

Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

In today’s reading we see Jesus being grilled by the Pharisees on the timing of the Kingdom of God! What can you make of the Lord’s response in vs.20b & 21? “The Kingdom of God does not come with observation”. It does not come through outward display. See the Lord’s response to Satan’s request for Him to display the proof of His sonship (Matthew 4:3‐10) and His brothers’ challenge to “show Himself to the world” (John 7:3‐4).

See also how He denounced a sign seeking generation in Matthew 12:38‐42. Today, exhibition of signs and wonders is for show in the Church. In v.21, we note that the Kingdom was indeed ‘in the midst’ of the Pharisees in the person of the King and His disciples.

They only refused to acknowledge Him, exhibiting intentional ignorance. In vs.22‐30, the Master underscores the fact that life will go on normally just before the Son of man is revealed. It was so in the days of Noah and Lot. Read vs.31‐37 and note the warnings and attitude expected of us as we await the soon return of the Master.
