Deuteronomy 31:6-8 (KJV)
6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
7 And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou must go with this people unto the land which the Lord hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it.
8 And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.
God gave Joshua the charge to be strong and courageous, as he (Joshua) took over the mantle of leadership from Moses, his master, leader and mentor. Moses had just died.
His anointing and achievements as a prophet and deliverer of Israel were phenomenal, legendary and intimidating.
God saw through Joshua and knew his fear. So, the charge to be strong and courageous was one of God’s ways of instilling hope and confidence in Joshua.
God also went on to promise Joshua that He would be with him as He was with Moses and that no man shall be able to defeat him. Having made this promise, God then told Joshua that the part of the bargain he had to keep was to be strong and courageous.
Beloved, God is giving you the same charge today. If you want 2023 to be highly glorious and fulfilling for you, you must be strong and courageous.
God knew that Joshua had herculean tasks to perform as the new leader of His people (the Israelites): there were nations to conquer and territories to possess for the Lord.
There were battles to fight and powerful kings and enemies to confront. There was the wall of Jericho to demolish. There were also giants to conquer and the Promised Land to possess according to the promise of God.
It would take unwavering faith, God’s strength and courage to achieve all these for the Lord.
The truth is that lack of faith, strength and courage in God has robbed so many people of the success, position, promotion, blessings, victory and so on that God made available to them.
Fear is a robber. It births negative confession, timidity and cowardice. It has turned many people to losers where they should have been winners. Joshua faced his fears.
He confronted the giants and waged war against the enemies of God in faith that God was with Him as He had promised. Hence, he subdued nations, slew kings and conquered territories for God. God sent him help and gave him a strategy; the wall of Jericho fell down flat.
They conquered Jericho and possessed the Promised Land.
Beloved, no matter the challenges the enemy may bring your way this year or the obstacles you may face, be strong and courageous. Confront and conquer each of them with faith and in the name of the Lord. 2023 will be your best year ever, in the name of Jesus.
