Topic: DOING WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE
Bible Text: Luke 17:1-10
“So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.” Luke 17:10, NIV
Emerson said of Abraham Lincoln, the former American President: “His heart was as great as the world, but there was no room in it to hold the memory of a wrong.” Spurgeon advised, “Cultivate mercy until your heart yields a fine crop of it. Pray for a short memory as to all unkindness.” That is how the truly wise man acts.
The disciples realized that what Christ was asking of them was humanly difficult, and requested an increase by the LORD. Christ made it clear that even with faith as small as mustard seed, they can do wonders.
An important way to know your level of faith or submission to Christ is through your act of forgiving others their sin. It is also our duty to rebuke an offender. We must live in such a manner that we do not mislead or cause anyone to stumble.
Forgiving others must be seen as a duty for which we should not expect any special commendation. Make up your mind to forgive your offender(s) today.
Insight: Your level of forgiveness is determined by your level of submission to Christ.
Prayer: LORD, please strengthen me to forgive those who sin against me.
