SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE FOR JULY 20, 2022 ( THE EVIL JEALOUSY)

TOPIC : THE EVIL JEALOUSY

Opening Prayer: Lord, let the light of your word shine into my life as I meditate on your word.

Scripture: Genesis 37:1‐11

Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

Joseph was a young man of seventeen and a shepherd. Why did Jacob love him more than his other children and how did this affect his family (vs.3‐4)? Parents should not show favouritism among their children as it often occasions feuds and quarrels in families. What other things aroused hatred and envy in Joseph’s brothers against him (vs.2, 5‐11)? Hatred and envy breed mischief and lead to dangerous and disastrous activities.

Joseph shared his dreams freely. Compare Jacob’s response to that of his sons (vs.10‐11). Considering Joseph’s age, was it childish innocence or pride that made him unable to manage his dreams? While we should condemn envy or hatred of anyone because of God’s special grace upon him/her, we need wisdom in sharing our God‐given vision (read Proverbs 4:7; Ecclesiastes 9:16,18). With whom do you share your vision or how do you react to people when they share their visions and revelations with you? How we need to beware of vision killers!

Practice/Word Application
Reflection: Nobody can thwart or stop God’s plan for you. You must, however, be careful the way and with whom you share it.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Oh Lord, may you give me victory over every trouble that comes my way

Offer a prayer of faith in line with
1 John 3:1; Hosea 13, 14; Psalms 67
