TOPIC: THE DANGER OF WANTING TO PLEASE MEN

Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any warning for me to heed?
MESSAGE
Festus was not convinced that the charges brought by the Jewish leaders against Paul merited a death sentence. However, for fear of antagonizing the Jewish leaders, he was unable to set Paul free. Paul was compelled to appeal to Caesar when he realized that Festus was indecisive due to much pressure and might end up yielding to the demands of the Jewish leaders. It might appear that Festus wanted to please the Jews and therefore sought the assistance of King Agrippa and his sister Bernice.
Notice the open confession of Festus in vs.25a and the confused state in which he found himself as he tried to establish concrete charges to merit sending Paul to Rome to stand trial before the emperor (v.26).
There are many leaders in our world today, Africa and elsewhere, who for fear of men, love for money and the fear of losing their position and influence will not take the right decisions. There is miscarriage of justice, rigging of elections and nepotism. Even in the church, corruption is rife by many church leaders at meetings opened with prayer! Are you willing to stand for the truth no matter the consequence?
