SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE DEVOTIONAL FOR AUGUST 2ND, 2022 (I AM ALWAYS WITH YOU)
TOPIC: I AM ALWAYS WITH YOU
OPENING PRAYER: Help me dear Lord to meet with you as I meditate on your word in Jesus name
SCRIPTURE: Revelation 1:9‐20
MESSAGE
John introduces himself and the circumstances leading to his exile on Patmos. The believers were severely persecuted, even unto death. Suffering is part of the Christian life (see 2 Timothy 3:12).
Note the importance of record keeping in a written form. Twice, Jesus instructs John to “Write on a scroll . . .” (vs.11, 19). God told Habakkuk, “Write the vision ?” (Habakkuk 2:2). Today, we are benefitting from the message they received because they obeyed God’s instruction to write it down.
What lesson do you learn here? If the Lord has put on your heart to write a book, do it promptly! The power of God’s Word is highlighted in v.16. Holding the seven stars (v.17) is symbolic of Christ sustaining the church.
The undeniable truth is that Christ has established His church, and the gates of Hades cannot overcome it (v.18; cf. Matthew 16:18). Jesus stands among the golden lampstands dressed in His priestly clothes! He is ever with His church (Matthew 28:20).
We worship and serve a living Saviour, who is one with God and holds the keys to death and hell (v.18). Since the Lord is in our midst, let us not fear death or hell or be discouraged in time of distress. Instead, as John fell prostrate at His feet (v.17), let us worship in truth, in spirit and in humility.
Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any command for me to obey?
• Is there any warning for me to heed?
• What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?
