Scripture Union Daily Guide Daily Devotional For November 20, 2021 (God’s Gracious Hand was Upon Me)
Topic: God’s Gracious Hand was Upon Me
Opening Prayer: As I read through this passage dear Lord, let your word bring transformation to my life.
Scripture: Nehemiah 2:1-10
Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Outline: That the king noticed the heaviness of Nehemiah’s heart shows that he has all along been doing his work with enthusiasm even though an exile. The King could have sentenced him to death for not carrying out his duties joyfully, but the Lord had gone ahead of him. He was honest in his answer and the King’s response took him by surprise. Notice what he did as a result in v.4b. Paul urged us to pray without ceasing. Sometimes our prayer is this type of “SMS”.
This kind of prayer will readily come to you if you have always engaged in serious prayers. Nehemiah next demonstrates his quality as a gifted and seasoned administrator. He had evidently done his homework. He did not need to ask for extra time to go and find out or think through what he required. He had the facts and figures at his fingertip. Besides, he had holy boldness to make extra demands (vs.7-8).
In all these, he had no doubt about the secret of his success (v.8b). The enemy becomes ‘very much disturbed’ immediately we set out to do God’s work (v.10). But our God is ever with us. Let us trust Him for success.
