MESSAGE
Two weeks ago, Jesus Christ sent out the Twelve (Luke 9:1‐10). Today He sent out many more on the same exercise. All of this is preparation for the time when, in the words of the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization, it will be “the whole Church taking the whole Gospel to the whole world.” Clearly, it is a job not for a chosen few but also for you and me.
Take note that Jesus never hid any information from these men regarding either the size of the work or the dangers they would face. In the light of this, it is strange that Jesus did not advise them to arm themselves with weapons, food and cash. Not so! Their only armour is faith in the Lord of the harvest, – to face the opponents who may try to harm or even kill them (the wolves, v.4), and to receive all they need (shelter, food, v.7).
Jesus is still recruiting men and women into his harvest field. Like the disciples, sometimes our gospel too will be received with gladness, but not all the time. We need not despair. Our task is to work faithfully and leave the result to God, the Lord of the harvest. What does Jesus’ statement in v.16 mean to you? See 2 Corinthians 5:18‐20.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
• Lord, send out more workers into the harvest, including me.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalms 130:7
