TOPIC: LIVING GOD’S TRUTH IN A WORLD OF LIES
Open Prayer: Dear Lord, I pray that you sanctify my spirit, soul and body as I read your word in Jesus name.
Scripture: 1 Kings 22:13-28
Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit? • Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Outline
To win the battle that rages in these evil times, we simply need the assurance that Jesus is on our side no matter the sufferings and loneliness we may experience. Read vs.13-14 and compare with Acts 4:16-21. It was a huge temptation for Micaiah to be a lone voice, but he resisted, not knowing the outcome. God never left Ahab without a witness, but he was responsible for his own choices. Ahab knew that Micaiah was a reputable prophet who specialized in telling the truth (vs.15-16).
Leaders should not rule by preconceived opinions like Ahab (v.18). See Paul’s warning in 2 Timothy 4:1-3. Take time to search yourself to see if you are in such a camp of people who resist the truth. Read vs.19-28 again and see a second competition between light and darkness. Elijah won. Micaiah won. We should pray that in our time, we shall also witness the victory of the truth.
Practice/Word Application
• So what? In what ways are you facing pressure to compromise your faith? Are you in the minority in your home, school, office, church or neighbourhood? Stand firm for the truth!
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
• Pray for God’s grace to live by His truth in today’s world! Pray for all people suffering because of their commitment to live by God’s word! • Pray that God will protect Christians against hostile governments.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Hebrews 4:16
16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
