Daily Guide 3 May 2022 | Scripture Union Devotional

Topic: A Call To Holy Living

Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, I pray that you order my steps today through your word as I meditate on it.

Scripture: 1 Peter 1: 13‐25

Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any command for me to obey?

OUTLINE

From v.13 we see how God wants us to live the new life with eternity in view. This involves turning our back on our old sinful ways (vs.14, 2:1), and making up our mind to live in total obedience and holiness. We live holy lives by resisting evil and gaining self‐control through the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit (vs.13‐17). Neither grass nor flower can keep their beauty for very long – they are soon cut down and they wither and die.

The other description (v.17) also reminds us of our transient nature (compare v.1). Here is not a permanent home for us. We have a spiritual life that is eternal. This was secured through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ who has given us a living faith and a living hope (v.21). His sacrifice is more valuable and more durable than silver or gold.

What recent world‐wide events have made people more aware that life is short‐lived (v.24)? How should one put his or her life in order since no one knows when it will end?
