SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE FOR FEBRUARY 13, 2023 (FREE INDEED)
TOPIC: FREE INDEED
OPENING PRAYER: Let me know more of you today dear Lord as I meditate on your word.
SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: Exodus 12: 37-51
QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION
• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
MESSAGE
Our passage describes the commencement of Israel’s homeward journey from Egypt. Compare vs.40-42 and 51 with Genesis 15:13-14. What does this say about God’s commitment to His promise? Though the Christian race “is not an easy road”, the God we serve is faithful and trustworthy. We, therefore, should not give way to unbelief and doubt but keep obeying and trusting God wholeheartedly!
The Passover has always been kept by Jews through the centuries as a memorial feast. For us, Jesus instituted the Last Supper (Holy Communion) to remember His body and shedding of His blood. Note the clear regulation of those who could participate in the institution of the Passover in vs.43-49. It was for only those who belong to Israel’s family. Aliens are however not excluded but note the condition they must fulfil (v.48).
Participating in the Holy Communion without being first a believer in the Lord Jesus and hence a member of God’s family is eating damnation to oneself. But we who belong to the family of God in Christ are even more privileged. We have been assured of feasting with the Lamb of God when he comes in His glory (Luke 22:28-30).
