SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR OCTOBER 21, 2022 (IN SEARCH OF THE WORD OF GOD)
TOPIC : IN SEARCH OF THE WORD OF GOD
Opening Prayer: Grant me depth of insight, revelation and knowledge as I meditate on this passage, O Lord.
Scripture: 2 Chronicles 9:1‐12
Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?
Many people – prophets, pastors, etc, claim to have the wisdom of God and want us to believe that they have a message for our generation from Him. What can we learn from the queen of Sheba about how to handle such claims (vs.1‐4; 1 John 4:1)? Take note that she was not satisfied with what others told her so she took steps to search for the truth (see vs.1,9). Our faith also requires continuous search and daily engagement with God’s word.
We should never be satisfied with what others tell us (John 5:39). We must be inquisitive enough to go the extra mile to know more about God and our faith (see Acts 17:11). Read vs.5‐8 again and observe the queen’s response to Solomon’s display of wisdom. As children of God we are the embodiment of His wisdom. When people encounter us, they should see divine wisdom at work and be moved to praise our heavenly Father (Matthew 5:16). What other lesson can we learn from v.12?
So What? The truth that you discover by yourself is the one that lasts. Think about some creative ways you can adopt to be more committed to personal meditation on God’s word.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
• Pray for grace to do this daily.
