SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR NOVEMBER 26, 2022 (JOASH SETS HIS HEART AGAINST GOD)
TOPIC: Joash Sets His Heart Against God
OPENING PRAYER: Make my life oh Lord a reflection of you as I study your word.
SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: 2 Chronicles 24: 17‐27
QUESTION FOR REFLECTION
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Is there any warning for me to heed?
MESSAGE
How quick and easy sometimes it is to forget! Joash forgets the Lord and the ideals he lived for during the lifetime of Jehoiada.
What triggered this change of heart (see v.17)? Examine the conduct of the king and his officials in vs.18‐19.
How did God deal with them? Like Jehoaida, God’s servants can wield immense positive influence on national leaders.
We see his son, Zechariah, rising to confront the king and his officials with courage and determination.
Let us pray for our religious leaders that they will play their God‐given role courageously and sacrificially.
The leaders had moved so far from the ways of the Lord that they could not withstand God’s call to repentance through Zechariah.
They would rather kill him. How we need to plead for God’s mercy upon our land for all the innocent blood shed through kidnappings, armed robbery, careless driving, inter‐tribal and boundary clashes, civil wars etc.
If the Lord would require the blood of Abel and others killed after him, should we expect anything less in our time?
PRACTICE/WORD APPLICATION
So what? Are you a servant of God? Then raise up a Zechariah for the Lord where you are.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
