SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR MAY 8, 2022 (THE END IS NEAR!)
Topic: The End Is Near!
Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, make me more like you through the power of your word as I meditate on it.
Scripture: 1 Peter 4:1‐11
Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any command for me to obey?
MESSAGE
Does v.3 describe your past life? If God has delivered you from such behaviour, then thank Him and do not allow the past to torment you anymore. Your deliverance has been made possible because Christ suffered in your stead on the cross of Calvary (v.1). What, according to Peter, should then be our response to this great deliverance? See vs.7 11 and compare with v.3.
We should use all that God has given us, physical or spiritual, for the good of others and thereby bring glory to God. As we deliberately depart from our old lifestyle, notice the possible reaction from our friends and neighbours (v.4). Why do you think they would want to react this way? Some of them, however, respect you for your courage and some others still are inwardly also seeking deliverance.
Only as you stand firm in your conviction can you help them. When we are conscious that the end of this world is near, we will preach the gospel earnestly and with urgency. In that way, we will help some escape from the soon coming judgment.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
• Thank God for delivering you from a lifestyle that leads to self‐destruction.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with 2 Corinthians 9:8
One Year Bible Reading Plan
1Samuel 9, 10, Psalms 50.
