SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY DEVOTIONAL TODAY’S TOPIC: ALONE WITH GOD
Opening Prayer: Oh Lord, grant me spiritual insight into the truth of your word as I study it.
Scripture: MARK 9:2-13
Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Jesus has just rebuked Peter sternly, even calling him Satan. And, just a few days later, He took him with others to have this special experience. Christ’s rebuke was not to destroy Peter, but He was seizing every available opportunity and occasion (positive and negative) to build him up. Rebuke when necessary but with the same purpose in mind – to build up one another.
The appearance of Moses (the giver of the Law) and Elijah (a major Prophet) confirmed the ministry of Jesus as the divine revelation of the Word of God. In Jesus, revelation received its finality, hence the voice from heaven: “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him” (v.7). Peter proposed that the team should camp permanently on the mountain so they can continue to enjoy the special experience. Our ‘mountain-top’ experience at camps and conferences should equip us for service in the valley of life.
And so: Take time to stay with Jesus alone. Then go out to serve Him in your world.

PRAYER FOCUS: SHARING THE LOVE OF CHRIST
My command is this: love each other as I have loved you. – 1 John 15:12
THANK GOD FOR:
► The love of God that has kept us thus far in all we are doing.
► The family relationship we have in SU where we all look out for each other’s good.
► Grace to continue to strengthen our relationship with trust and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as we share our love for the brethren.
► Increase in kindness, demonstration of love within our SU, family members and to all those around us.
► Expression of our love especially to the less privileged, orphans, widows/widowers and those who need it most amongst us.
► Leaders who will take care of the less privileged in Nigeria and not those who will steal Nigerian resources.
► Every spirit of arrogance, jealousy and impatience among us in SU.
► Failing to pray for one another, not being kind to one another, or even loving one another.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Genesis 27:29
