Abraham’s life was full of turning point encounters. In Genesis 12, God instructed him to leave his land of nativity, his family and brethren, and go to a land which He would show Him. Abraham obeyed God. God also pronounced seven blessings upon his life. This marked a turning point in the life of Abraham and the beginning of an extraordinary relationship between him and God, producing transgenerational impacts and blessings.
Abraham’s life was without meaning, direction and impact before this encounter with God. So, the first benefit of a turning point encounter is that it will connect you to your divine purpose and give your life meaning, direction and impact! Check the lives of Abraham, Moses, David, Gideon, Peter, Paul, and so on. You will discover this timeless truth. Abraham had other turning point encounters in Genesis 15 and 17.
First, God changed his name from Abram to Abraham and Sarai’s name to Sarah. This was also a major turning point in their lives. Through the divine name change, Abraham and Sarah were divinely connected to God; they became His own or His property. They were properly aligned to receive and enjoy the best that God had in store for their destinies.
The Bible says that you shall be called by a new name which the mouth of the Lord shall name (Isaiah 62:2b). Name is an omen. Don’t let an evil name hamper your destiny. The level of grace, greatness and glory that God places in your life is directly proportional to the turning point encounters you have with Him. In Genesis 18 and 21, Abraham had yet other encounters with God.
In Genesis, he received and entertained three heavenly visitors. His hospitality and generosity paid off. After their sumptuous meal, the visitors asked, “Where is thy wife, Sarah?” Then they pronounced, “”By this time next year, Sarah will have a child for you.” That was a major turning point in the life of Abraham, who was 100 years old and Sarah, who was 90
