TOPIC: YOU AND HIS WORD
Read: Luke 7:1-9
Luke 7:1-9 When Jesus had finished saying all this to the people who were listening, he entered Capernaum.
There a centurion’s servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die.
The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant.
When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, “This man deserves to have you do this,
Because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.”
So Jesus went with them. He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof.
That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.
For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.”
MEMORISE:
That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. (Luke 7:7)
EXPOSITION
Quite naturally, whenever we are in any difficult situations, we cry to the Lord for help, and more often, we expect Him to respond almost immediately as, if He should come down personally to solve the problem. However God sends His Word to do whatever He wishes to do. There is nothing accomplished in heaven or earth by God without He speaking His Word. (Jn.1v1). When He speaks His Word, it is not just for speaking sake, it will do exactly what it is meant to do (Isa. 55v10-11). His Word differs from men’s words because His word is spirit and life (Jn.6v63) All powerful (Heb.4v12).
Only people who know God’s word and what it can do will believe and depend on it. His Word is Yes and Amen (Isa. 46v10-11). It is all you need for success in life, marriage, ministry, career, etc. (Jos.1v8). Most people seem to value, above all else, the personal presence of Jesus Christ intervening in their stormy and troubled situations. May be this is one of the reasons some so-called believers are never satisfied until a ‘prophet’ or ‘pastor’ has physcal paraphernalia they think facilitate answered prayers. This is not expected of the matured in Christ Jesus.
The man in our golden text, a Centurion of repute, had one of his servant dying at home. He requested not Christ physical presence to get the servant healed, because he trusted the efficacy of God’s Word as His representative that He sends at will, just as he commands his own servants to go, and they go or to come, and they come. What a great and uncommon faith that Christ Himself so commends!
Lack of faith debars desired miracles in one’s life. Jesus was ready and empowered to do all things when He came but how many came and believed in the Word? Please accept His Word, believe it, Read it, Memorise it, study it, and apply it appropriately. The results of your faith in Him and His Word are non-negotiable. You are blessed.
