TOPIC: GOD IS FAITHFUL
Read: Psalm 46:1-7
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
Though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
MEMORISE: God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. (Psalms 46:1).
EXPOSITION
Amid global pandemic, political tensions and economic uncertainty, plus the threat to unleash nuclear weapon, as the world commemorates International Day for the Elimination of Nuclear weapons, the reality is that, God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
How could you have escaped the horrors of deadly infections and the pangs of death that ravaged the world in the recent past, if God hasn’t been on your side? Faithful is He Who promises:
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God* (Isa.43v2-3a).
The very name, “Immanuel” means “God with us.” We never know when things can go wrong, because turmoil do erupt unannounced. Whenever they do, you need to stay calm, as much as possible, because our God, your God, is the very present help in trouble.
Daniel and the 3 Hebrew sages, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, said to king Nebuchadnezzar: we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”* (Dan.3v16b-18). And God did save them.
If you feel troubled today, count on and celebrate the faithfulness of God. Remember that He is your very present help in trouble. Visualize Him standing beside you, and let His calmness fill your heart. The faithful Almighty God will ensure that you come out unhurt of all troubles encountered.
