TOPIC: OBEY GOD WITH HEART AND VOICE
Bible Text: Deuteronomy 30:6-14
“The LORD your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love Him with all your heart and with all your soul and live.” Deuteronomy 30:6, NIV
MESSAGE
A man was walking with his little boy on a cold day. The way was slippery and the father warned him to hold his hand lest he fell. However, the boy put his hands in the pocket of his topcoat, a rare possession in the town. Soon, they stepped on a slippery surface and the boy fell, yet he would not obey his father. He had a second fall, which was harder than the first, only then did he allow the father to hold his hand.
In order to be able to obey, Moses told the children of Israel that God would circumcise their hearts and that of their descendants (vs.6). It is God alone that can deal effectively with our heart, to take away its filth and pollution. Effective circumcision is not of the flesh, but of the spirit, carried out by the combined influence of the Word and the Holy Spirit.
When a soul is converted to faith in Jesus Christ, he receives the power to obey and love God. To obey God with our heart and mind means there must be agreement between what we believe and what we do. You can only find life and peace when you obey God with your heart.
Insight: Look unto Jesus and live.
Prayer: LORD, I put my hands into your hands. Lead me on.
