Bible Text: Philippians 2:1-11
TOPIC: JOY FULFILLED IN CHRIST’S SACRIFICE
“Therefore, if you have any encouragement, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded…” Philippians 2:1-2, NIV
An African adage says, “he who gives a female for wife has offered the greatest sacrifice”. Paul was encouraging the Philippian Christians to strive and have encouragement, unity, love, tenderness, and that all these will complete his joy. As Christians, selfishness should not be part of us but humility which Christ exhibited through his death. As a result of Christ humility and sacrifice, God exalted Him and gave Him a name which is above every other name. It is the only prayer offered in the name of Jesus that God will answer.
Beloved, there is nothing to be proud about. If Christ was not proud even though He is equal with God, then we have no reason to be proud. Christ sacrificed Himself so that our joy of becoming God’s children can be fulfilled. The least we can do for Him is obey His instructions and those He has placed over us. Obedience and humility pay. How obedient are you to authorities, parents, spouses, rules and regulations, taxes, tithes and offering? When will you return to your God? For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall perish but have everlasting life. Jesus paid the supreme sacrifice. He endured the shame, humiliation, and the cruel death so that you may have life. Choose life!
Insight: The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Accept Him.
Prayer: Jesus, help me and do not allow your sacrifice for me be in vain.
