TOPIC: CONTROL YOUR OWN BODY
Bible Text: 1 Thessalonians 4:1-7
“It is God’s will… that you should avoid sexual immorality, that each of you should learn to control your own body…” 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4a, NIV
In a survey by Christianity Today, out of a thousand people interviewed, 23 percent said they had had extramarital affairs. 45 percent indicated they had done something they deemed sexually inappropriate. One in four Christian men is unfaithful. This shows that sexual immorality is a major vice the world is battling with today.
Just like it is happening today, the church at Thessalonica was a church that also struggled with the issues of sexual immorality and marital unfaithfulness among the church members. Paul wrote to the Thessalonians, emphasising that what God desires is for all Christians to be sanctified and avoid every form of sexual immorality.
The same message of Paul to the Thessalonians fully applies to our generation. Sexual immorality, adultery and fornication are increasingly becoming popular and not considered sinful. If you are struggling to keep your sexual urges and spiritual morality, turn to God for grace to live a holy life. That is the call of God upon all people. Your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Spirit dwells in you, therefore, do not allow sin to reign in your mortal body.
Insight: ‘Pornography’ is from the Greek word ‘porneia’ which describes sexual immorality in the Bible. Avoid it totally.
Prayer: Father, help me to live a holy life in this corrupt generation.
