Topic: A Taste Of Jesus Christ’s Glory!
Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, may the entrance of your word bring light and life to all I will do today.
Scripture: Matthew 17:1 – 13
Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit? • What is God revealing to me in this passage?
Indeed, the prophet Jeremiah (33:3) said when we call on God, He will show us great and unsearchable things. Jesus took his inner circle disciples up the mountain to witness to and have a taste of His glory, the glory He told them about earlier (see Matthew 16:27-28).
The appearance of Moses and Elijah seems to suggest that the disciples needed to know that Jesus was indeed the Messiah prophesied by Moses (Deuteronomy 18:18) and the rest of the prophets (represented by Elijah) and His messianic mission.
The radiance that Jesus experienced in their presence, and the voice confirming His identity as God’s Son (v.5), must have shown the disciples that Jesus was more than just a prophet, far above Moses and Elijah. This should clear any doubt about Jesus’ identity in the disciples’ mind and hopefully, in ours too.
Notice Peter’s proposal in v.4 – to remain on this mountain. When God gives us a new experience or revelation, we should never hoard it but share it in the marketplace – with our peers, family members, school and office mates.
