Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
MESSAGE
This passage illustrates the true act of repentance and God’s open arms of acceptance through Christ Jesus. Read vs.1‐4 again. What can we learn from Zacchaeus’ action? He made commendable efforts in his quest to see Jesus. He did not allow his physical, professional and social status to hinder him.
Notice how readily Jesus associated with him (v.5). Zacchaeus also was excited to take Jesus to his house and as a sign of admittance and repentance of his sins, he willingly promised to give his wealth to the poor and to repay those he had defrauded (v.8; compare Luke 10:21‐22).
We may feel so unworthy sometimes because of the way we have lived in the past, but if that leads us to humble repentance and seeking the Lord in sincerity, He will forgive us and save us. That was the reason He came (v.10; cf. Matthew 1:21). Observe that Jesus called Zacchaeus by name (v.5). He knows all about us, so, there would be no need to pretend about who we are before Him. What do you think about the people’s reaction to the whole event (v.7)?
Practice/Word Application
So what? How honest have you been in your stewardship of public and private property in your care? Have you, like Zacchaeus, considered making restitution as a sign of genuine repentance?
