SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY DEVOTIONAL 1 MAY 2022 (ABRAHAM RESCUE HIS NEPHEW)

Opening Prayer: May my heart, O Lord, be receptive to your word as I meditate on it.
Scripture: Genesis 14:13‐24
Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
MESSAGE
Although Abram and Lot had earlier parted ways, Abram mobilized forces to pursue an invading army to rescue his nephew and others. His love and concern for Lot is worth emulating (vs.13‐15). What can you do for Christians known to you who are going through difficulties in their lives? May God use us, like Abram, to grant victory and restoration to those we can help (v.16).
Melchizedek blessed Abram after the rescue mission (vs.18‐20), just like God blesses our good works (Hebrews 6:10). But it was God who helped Abram to defeat his enemies even though numerous. He will also give us victory over our enemies no matter their size and threats (see Psalm 60:11‐12). Abram did not get carried away by the victory. Instead, he acknowledged God by giving up a tenth of what he recovered.
How faithful are you in giving back to God out of what He has enabled you to acquire? We should acknowledge God as our source of victory and keep our vows like Abram did (vs.22‐24).
Closing Prayer
• Heavenly Father, may I always depend on you in my daily pursuits, and may I gladly return all the glory to you.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Romans 5:1
“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:”
