SEEK DAILY (NBC) DEVOTIONAL FOR March 20, 2022 (GOD’S PATTERN OF WORSHIP)
TOPIC: GOD’S PATTERN OF WORSHIP
Bible Text: Deuteronomy 12:4-7
Memory Verse: “You must not worship the LORD your God in their way.” Deuteronomy 12:4, NIV
A missionary, Lou Nicholes said: “A few years ago my wife and I visited the Lacadone Indian tribe in southern Mexico who made god-pots with ugly faces and worshiped them. They would make an intoxicating drink from certain tree leaves. They would drink this, dance around these pots, and fall in a drunken stupor. It is so stupid, but we even have educated people here in our country who worship crucifixes, beads, etc. and dance with other men’s wives while they get drunk.”
In the case of the Israelites, the Lord Himself chose the places He was to be worshipped and prescribed how to bring their various offering and sacrifices to Him in an acceptable way. He charged them never to emulate the worship patterns of the Canaanite nations, but to do exactly as He commands.
God wants us to worship Him in spirit and in truth, we should not worship any other gods before Him (Exodus 20:3-5; 34:14). We must focus on the message and the truth of Jesus Christ (Colossians 3:16); and continually renew our mind with the Word of God (Romans 12:2). When His truth captures our mind, we will dwell in Him, we are able to come to Him and worship Him in spirit and in truth at all times.
Insight: Worship God as the Holy Spirit leads not as the world does.
Prayer: Lord, teach me to worship you passably.
