SEEK DAILY (NBC) DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR Friday, March 18, 2022 ( DEVOTED CHRISTIAN)
TOPIC: DEVOTED CHRISTIAN
Bible Text: 1 Corinthians 16:1-4
Memory Verse: “Now about the collection for the Lord’s people: Do what I told the Galatian churches to do.” 1 Corinthians 16:1, NIV
A poor widow always give two pence weekly as a benevolence contribution in her local assembly. A rich man, also a member of the same assembly was willing to assist her in giving the same contribution because she is just a poor widow who independently supported herself and her children with laundry job. However, she declined saying: “do they want to take from me the comfort I experience in giving to the Lord?” She was devoted in her sacrificial giving and was not willing to give it up.
Just as he did in Galatia, Apostle Paul had directed the church in Corinth to make collections every first day of the week based on their financial abilities. This contribution was to assist the poor saints at Jerusalem that were experiencing persecution. In response to this, Paul persuaded other believers from other regions to be of help.
It is our responsibility as body of Christ to meet the needs of others especially those in the household of faith. Everyone is expected to give based on his or her capacity. How do you respond to benevolence? Always give willingly without grumbling. Take a step now and help the needy.
Insight: He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord (Proverbs 19:17a).
Prayer: Lord, help me to give generously as you bless me.
