TOPIC: GOD HARDENS PHARAOH’S HEART
Bible Text: Exodus 14:1-9
“And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will pursue them. But I will gain glory for myself through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD.” Exodus 14:4, NIV
MESSAGE
God is merciful, yet He punishes obstinate rebellion severely. The act of rebellion against God’s instruction or command is an act of rejecting His rule. After relenting and giving the children of Israel permission to depart, Pharaoh changes his mind and determines to prevent them; so God hardens his heart, and permits him to rush on to his final ruin, for the cup of his iniquity was full.
Pharaoh’s heart was hardened because he offered himself to be used as an instrument of oppression against God’s children. No one kicks against a rock and goes unhurt. The welfare of God’s children is very dear to God and He does not permit anyone to tamper with their freedom and relationship with Him.
Pharaoh was used by God to display His mighty hand of salvation for His people. Do not fret when people are threatening your life. As He used Pharaoh and his armies to display His wonders, so shall He fight your enemies also. You need to be sure that as God is fighting your battles, you do not also become a stumbling block to others. Do not be Pharaoh to others.
Insight: Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft.
Prayer: Lord, I need Your grace of restraint upon my life.
