MESSAGE
John MacArthur in “True Worship” says, “Worship is to Christian living, what the mainspring is to a watch. It is the very core of a Christian’s response to God; the very heart of a Christian’s activity.” Indeed, the ultimate purpose of man is worship.
Today’s passage presents to us three kinds of singing that are Spirit-inspired and used in the public worship of God by the Church.
They are psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs; they make us appreciate God as the ruler of the universe, move our heart in reverence Him, and lead us into an intense sense of His presence. Also, these Spirit-inspired songs have a two-fold place of singing in the Church to worship God; our singing is used to make melody with gratitude in our hearts to God, and also to teach and admonish one another.
In singing these Spirit-inspired songs, God speaks to us, we respond to Him, and we are spiritually edified. This makes us have true communion with the Father.
Friend, for your singing to be pleasing to the Lord, it must be expressed from your heart with thankfulness. The main thing about singing is that the Lord is glorified.
Insight: Each act of worship connects worshippers to God.
Prayer: Lord, in my worship daily, I ask for a life-transforming encounter in Your presence.
