TOPIC: WHO ARE YOU?
Bible Text: 1 Corinthians 2:14-16; 3:1-3
Memory Verse: “You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans?” 1 Corinthians 3:3, NIV
MESSAGE
Two Christian brothers were friends for over forty years but a petty jealousy and quarrel separated them. A small river separated their two properties. The other brother who had read Paul’s admonition to the Corinthians thought he was forgiven and crossed the bridge and forgave his brother.
In today’s passage, Apostle Paul talks about the natural man, the Spiritual man and the carnal man. The natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit, because they are spiritually discerned.
The spiritual man is a person in whom the Holy Spirit dwells. Hence, the ability to discern is not the man’s, it is the Holy Spirit within the man. The carnal man is not spiritually mature, he is as a babe. The Christians in Corinth are carnal which is clearly seen in envying and strive. Little wonder, Paul could not address them as spiritual.
Who are you? A carnal Christian or a spiritual believer? Do you understand the things of the Spirit or do you walk in flesh? Remember, the man who is truly spiritual lives under the control of God’s Spirit. Therefore, the spiritual man has the mind of Christ.
Insight: “Live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desire of the sinful nature”
Prayer: Lord, give me the strength to live a life worthy of my calling.
