TOPIC: THE BLESSING IN UNITY
TEXT: PSALM 133:1-3
“It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the LORD bestows his blessing, even life for evermore.” Psalm 133:3, NIV
MESSAGE
An admirer once asked Leonard Bernstein, celebrated orchestra conductor, what was the hardest instrument to play. He replied without hesitation; “Second fiddle. I can always get plenty of first violinists, but to find one who plays second violin, or second French horn or second flute, with as much enthusiasm is a problem. And yet if no one plays second, we have no harmony.” “Unity has to do with wholeness, oneness, agreement or harmony of feelings, opinion, interest or purpose.”
In today’s passage, the psalmist expressed how important it is for brethren to dwell together in unity by comparing it with the precious oil poured on Aaron’s and the dew of Hermon falling on Mount Zion. Therefore, it is important to seek to preserve peace and promote a spirit of harmony. Being in unity does not mean that we have to agree with everyone on every single opinion or issue. We can actually disagree without causing strife or delusion; we can still love one another even if we do not agree perfectly on all issue. Disunity hinders the work of God and grieves the Spirit of God. God’s work in unity of purpose commands His blessing.
Insight: When we are united as God’s people, blessings are inevitable
Prayer: God, help me not to cause disunity in the Body of Christ.
