SEEK DAILY (NBC) DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR NOVEMBER 29, 2021 (THE LAW OF JUSTICE)
Bible Text: Deuteronomy 5:6-21
TOPIC: THE LAW OF JUSTICE
“You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife. You shall not set your desire on your neighbor’s house or land, his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.” Deuteronomy 5:21, NIV
Laws are rules by which people live their lives. They may be influenced by nature and the natural environment of the society in which people live, and may have developed out of customs over the centuries. The laws that make up the constitution guard people’s basic freedoms and guard them against the tyranny of a dictator. They allow people to live in peace and security, and people have a duty to obey them in order to protect the rights of one another.
These laws should be right and just, so that people will respect them.
God gave the children of Israel laws to guide their daily activities, foster good relationship and avoid unnecessary conflict. God’s laws are to be obeyed and not questioned to ensure justice in relationship among believers.
As God’s children, we must understand the law of God and pray for grace to live by it. We can only live by these laws by the enablement of the Holy Spirit. Do you know the Ten Commandments by heart? Consciously go through these laws and pray for grace to live by them.
Insight: Obeying God’s law helps our relationship with God and other people.
Prayer: Lord, help me to be conscious of Your laws at all times and give me the grace to obey them.
