SEEK DAILY (NBC) DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR NOVEMBER 26, 2021 (A CENTURION COMES TO JESUS)
TEXT: LUKE 7:1-10
TOPIC: A CENTURION COMES TO JESUS
“When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, ’I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.’” Luke 7:9, NIV
In his book, God in the Dock, on miracles, C.S. Lewis wrote, “The Miracles in fact are a retelling in small letters the very same story which is written across the whole world in letters too large for some of us to see,” But the truth is that we have to make ourselves small to see them.
Miracles are for the humble. The Centurion in today’s passage happened to be a Roman soldier, a stern, unbending man, accustomed to be obeyed absolutely, yet he came to Jesus in complete humility and faith. He told Jesus not to bother coming under his roof, but to say just a word and his servant will be healed. Jesus was impressed by this strong faith. Beloved, the greater the faith, the deeper the humility.
The more the revelation of God you have, the humbler you become. This centurion also showed great sympathy for his slave. Some people cannot do what this man did for his slave. We must always remember that God brings some people our way for a specific reason, so don’t maltreat anyone. Whatever place of authority God has placed you, always treat people right because humility balanced with faith brings about miracles.
Insight: Faith and humility move the hand of God.
Prayer: Lord, help me to be humble and have faith in Your Word.
