MESSAGE
We live in a generation where many so-called Christians hold to false security of belonging to certain churches as guarantee for being God’s people. People pay no attention to their individual ways and lives, that the church is constituting herself into nuisance to the society rather than being light and salt to the world (Matthew 5:13-16). It seems that being a Christian is synonymous with being member of a particular church.
That has been the case since the time of the Old Testament when the Jews held to a false security of having God’s temple in their midst as a guarantee for safety from evil. In today’s passage, we read of Jeremiah standing at the gate of the temple to admonish the people to pay attention to their ways and their deeds rather than chastising others (7:3).
It is good to belong to a Bible-believing church. However, membership of a church should be by conversion and every member should delight in maturing in Christ through nurturing by God’s Word and the transforming power of the Spirit.
Watch your ways, be sure you are in the right part of righteousness, be not mixed with people chastising others, check yourself and show the nature of Christ in you by becoming a virtue that others can imitate. Let the Word of God be the foundation that you build your life.
