SEEK DAILY (NBC) DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR FEBRUARY 17, 2022 (BE RESOLUTE)
TOPIC: BE RESOLUTE
Bible Text: Daniel 1:1-8
Memory Verse: “But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine…” Daniel 1:8a , NIV
The first stanza of a hymn states: “I am resolved no longer to linger, charmed by the world’s delight; Things that are higher, things that are nobler, these have allured my sight.” Daniel and his friends made in Babylon were recruited and given scholarship to be trained in the languages and culture of Babylon. They were to be fed with the same kind of food the king ate. At the end, they were to serve as protocol officers and special advisers.
However, for Daniel, eating the food would amount to defiling himself and making him unclean before God and so he made up his mind not to partake in it. This is moral discipline which is lacking among the people today.
There are many talented and gifted people who live their lives in mediocrity and under-achievement for lack of discipline. Talent minus discipline equals failure. A genius without discipline will die unsung.
Are you a disciplined Christian? The issue of discipline is so important if you will ever please God and fulfill destiny. Daniel was disciplined as a youth and he maintained that throughout his life. Remember, God is looking for sons and daughters who are conformed to the image of His Son. Be disciplined!
Insight: One of the signs of an authentic Christianity is self-discipline.
Prayer: Lord, help me to live a disciplined life.
