SEEK DAILY (NBC) DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR DECEMBER 15, 2021 (PURSUE RIGHTEOUSNESS)
Bible Text: 1 Timothy 6:6-12
TOPIC: PURSUE RIGHTEOUSNESS
“But godliness and contentment is great gain.” 1 Timothy 6:6, NIV
A woman in a certain village left her husband with four children and snatched another man from his wife. The man returned to his own wife after prayers of restoration were offered, but the discontented woman could not return to her former husband due to shame. Against today’s topic, the husband snatcher was not satisfied with the husband God gave her and thereby pursued unrighteousness.
The little, which a righteous man has, is better than the riches of many wicked people. Godliness is itself a great gain; it is profitable to all things. Wherever there is true godliness, there will be contentment. Whatever we have, we are obliged to the providence of God for it. Why should we not be content with a little, because regardless of how much we have, we must leave it behind us?
Those who are covetous fall into temptation and become ensnared. Worldly lusts are foolish and hurtful. Let us follow righteousness, godliness and meekness in all things.
Believers who mind their callings and make good use of it by making God their source in all things will find it as gain here in the world and at the end of their Christian journey.
Insight: Those who have arrived at the highest pitch of godliness with contentment are certainly the happiest people in the world.
Prayer: Lord, remove covetousness from my life.
