TOPIC: GREATNESS THROUGH SERVANTHOOD
Bible Text: Mark 10:42-45
“Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.” Mark 10:43-44, NIV
MESSAGE
Servants in most cases are subjected to maltreatment. Apart from the possible unjust treatment associated with serving others, the tag it carries is demeaning in man’s judgment. However, service can bring unprecedented lifting and greatness like the case of Joseph in the Bible.
Jesus gave a hard truth about servant hood to correct the misconception of His disciples. He denounced the practice of Gentile rulers who forcefully lead their followers with arrogance. On the contrary, He called His disciples to emulate His example of humble service even as their leader. He asserts that serving is the pathway to greatness and glory. It attracts God’s approval and blessing.
As contemporary disciples of Christ, He will not lower the standard for us. It takes humility to serve others without seeking recognition or human praise. If you are ashamed to serve in the name of Christ, then you cannot claim to belong to Him. Every position of leadership must be used to serve and not for show. Rid yourself of your self-importance and humbly serve the Lord among the people. You will surely be rewarded and become great.
Insight: Service with humility and loyalty to Christ produces fragrant reward of greatness.
Prayer: Lord, equip me to serve You with love and humility.
