TOPIC: ANGRY AND SULLEN RULER!
OPENING PRAYER: As I read your word O Lord, grant me an insight and grace to do your will in Jesus name.
SCRIPTURE: 1 Kings 21:1-29
Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Is there any warning for me to heed?
As you read this passage today, carefully reflect on how many of the Ten Commandments were broken from v.1 to the shameful act of Ahab in v.16. Sin destroys character! King Ahab opened his life to the sin of covetousness and said to Naboth, “your vineyard is so convenient to me” (v.2). Why was the King wrong, and why was Naboth right? Read 1 Kings 20:43 and compare with v.4 of today’s passage. Evil leaders also stand the risk of generational curse if the descendants follow the footsteps of their forefathers by disobeying God (vs.27-29).
As rightly observed in v.25 (see also 16:29-33), Ahab, supported by his evil wife Jezebel, completely sold himself to evil. Why do we have people like this still in power today in Africa? We get what we deserve when we sell our conscience and votes to place the ungodly in power. Such people use us to rig elections and destroy other people to get to the position of authority. Others forcefully impose themselves on us through coup-de-tat. We contribute to their evils when we do not stand for the truth and vote for godly people.
• And so: In what ways are you contributing to the evil that is prevalent in your country today?
• Pray for God’s grace never to compromise with sin!
• Pray against errors, false doctrines and unhealthy competition among Church leaders.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with
• Judges 1-3; John 2
