TOPIC: Admonition to Persevere
Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, grant me understanding and illumination as I ponder on your word in Jesus name.
Scripture: Hebrews 10:32-39
Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow? • Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for? • Is there any warning for me to heed?
Read vs.32-34 again. What can we learn from the Hebrew Christians about how to face persecution and trials? In this period of global persecution of the Church and daunting trials, remembering our first love can be a great source of strength to help us hold on to our convictions and forge ahead (v.32).
Our Christian duty of love demands that those of us who are not experiencing persecution stand by those who are (v.33). But more importantly, we should be willing to let go of things of this world, remembering that our inheritance in Christ is far better than anything this world can offer (v.34). Think of how you can partner with Christians undergoing severe persecution in your Country? Check out the admonitions for us in vs.35-37 and why?
Satan uses trials and troubles to intimidate us and erode our confidence in God’s promises. But if we endure trials, God can use them to build up our character and faith (James 1:2-4; Romans 5:3-5), and we shall receive the rewards He has promised when He comes (Luke 12:37; 2 Timothy 4:7-8), otherwise He will be displeased with us (v.38).
• So What? Are you going through some trials or persecution because of your faith right now?
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
• Ask God for grace to endure and hold on to your faith. Pray also for other Christians going through similar situation. • Pray that the various efforts at communicating the gospel of Christ will yield immense results in the souls to be won.
