Opening Prayer: May my heart, O Lord, be receptive to your word as I meditate on it.
Scripture: Ezekiel 11:1-13
Question(s) for Reflection
• What is God revealing to me in this passage?
The glory of the Lord had rested at the east gate entrance (10:19). Now the Spirit brought the prophet to the same place (11:1). Notice the people he found there, and what they were doing (vs. 2-3)? We often think that thoughts and words don’t matter provided we don’t carry them out. But hear God’s verdict in vs.4-6, and Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 15:18-19. Before God, both the bad advisor and those who follow such counsel are guilty. Think of many special advisers surrounding our leaders, and the quality of their advice. To what extent too could you be an adviser – in your home, Church, workplace, neighbourhood, etc?
How will your counsel help those in trouble, or bring further development to your community? These remnants in Jerusalem after the Babylonian invasion feel so secured and favoured by God that they think of themselves as the favourite portions of meat in a cooking pot, while the exiles are the bones. They refuse to believe the prophet’s message that God would destroy them too because of their disobedience. God’s judgment is sure and those who refuse to heed His warning bring unnecessary sorrow on themselves and on those around them (vs.8,13).
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
• Lord, help me to take heed from your word that every sinful act will be punished • Pray that God would give Nigeria leaders that respect human rights
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalm 115:12; Psalms 29-30; Acts 15:22-41
