Topic: Our Great God Deserves Continuous Praise
Opening Prayer: Grant me depth of insight, revelation and knowledge as I meditate on this passage, O Lord.
Scripture: Psalm 147:1-20
Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow? • What is God revealing to me in this passage?
This Psalm was probably composed for the Levitical choir on the occasion of the dedication of the rebuilt walls of Jerusalem (Nehemiah 12:27-43). Although it is divided into two separate parts; vs. 1-11; and 12-20, it is actually a three-stanza song: vs1-6; 7-11; 12-20 in which God’s unique favour to Israel is celebrated. The Psalms are a constant reminder to God’s people that praises and thanksgiving should flow continually to God knowing how much He has done for us, in spite of us.
List the things said about the Lord in vs.1-6 noting those that show His compassion and sovereignty in the cause of the afflicted and oppressed. Mention also those that show His power and greatness in creation. Based on these, notice the refrain in vs.7,12 which strikes again the note of thanksgiving. In vs.8-11, the God who governs nature provides rain in its seasons and food for all His creature, delights in those who depend on Him but despises those who seem to ignore Him (1 Samuel 2:30).
Do you always give glory to God and depend on Him? Look at what is further said about how He defends His people (vs.13-20) and about His word (vs.15,18). He revealed His word to Jacob and to those who through faith have received His Son Jesus as saviour and Lord.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
• Lord, grant peace to our nation and satisfy your people in times of need. • Ask God to help you know His will, walk in it and be an example to believers and unbelievers
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Numbers 23:19; Psalms 26-28; Acts 15:1-21
