SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE FOR JULY 1, 2022 ( GO, AND I WILL BE WITH YOU )

TOPIC : GO, AND I WILL BE WITH YOU

Opening Prayer: May my heart, O Lord, be receptive to your word as I meditate on it.

Scripture: Genesis 31:1‐21

Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any warning for me to heed?
• What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

Because of Jacob’s prosperity, Laban and his sons’ attitude towards him changed. Perhaps this was God’s working as He now gives Jacob the command to go to his own land (v.3). Notice what God promises to do in v.3. In his speech to his two wives (vs.4‐16), Jacob outlined God’s hand of intervention. Jacob’s prosperous breeding results had nothing to do with his antics. Notice to whom Jacob attributes this blessing (vs.7‐9)?

In fact, Laban and Jacob did their best to deceive each other. Rachel and Leah responded in faith (vs.14‐16), not knowing what was ahead of them. Let us put our trust in God remembering that, “although we do not know what the future holds, we do know who holds the future”. God is in control of all situations. He is in charge of every event in life. Our human tricks do not influence events.

His sovereignty does. Let us entrust our life to Him. The household gods that Rachel stole (v.19) were supposed to protect the family from harm. How can a god that can be easily stolen protect anyone? Do you depend on other ‘gods’ or ‘charms’ to protect you?

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Help me, dear Lord, not to be jealous as others prosper.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with
Psalms 145:9; 1 Kings 22; Psalms 59
