MESSAGE
At first, Moses had the idea that he was going to liberate the children of Israel, but he failed miserably (2:11-15). Therefore, he decided that he did not have what the task required (vs.10, 13). God was patient with him and gave him one assurance after another (vs.2-4, 6-7, 11-12). Even then, Moses was not convinced! Are you discouraged because you have failed in something? We have all heard the saying, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, and try again.”
Actually, that is not always a wise idea. It is possible that this is not what God wants for you and you should try something different. The first thing to do is to be sure of what God really wants for you, and then to go for it. In this case, God made clear what He wanted Moses to do, and there was no reason for him to hesitate.
Take note of vs.2,17. God did not manufacture a special staff for Moses. It was the ordinary shepherd’s staff in his hand that God used in an extraordinary manner. In the same way, God can use what is already in our hands!
