TOPIC: GOD, PLEASE BLESS OTHER PEOPLE

Scripture: Psalm 67:1-7
Question(s) for Reflection• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
MESSAGE
God chose and called Abraham to come out of his pagan community and took him far away to a new country to become the father of a new nation. The reason was not because the man was better than everybody else but because God had a special purpose to make him the beginning of special blessing for the whole earth. He made this clear to him in Genesis 12:3: “All peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
The prayer of this Psalm follows the same pattern. It is calling down God’s blessing on His people. It is not only spiritual blessing that is in view here. V.6 makes it clear that material blessing is part of it. Take note that, however seriously the farmer prays, the land does not yield any harvest if he himself does not work on the farm! On the other hand, however, hard work, without God’s blessing, all is in vain.
Read the Psalm again and note its inclusive language throughout. It centres on God and His blessing for others rather than on themselves. These are the people of God praying, but their concern is not primarily for themselves but for gentile nations far and wide.
Practice/Word Application So What? How should this Psalm influence the way I pray? How does it compare with James 4:3?
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing PrayerMay the people praise you, O Lord. May all the people praise you.
