  Scripture Union Outline

During the days of Abram and Lot, there were many kings who were rulers of city states. Often weaker kings would serve stronger kings.

Because of greed, Lot had chosen the green Jordan valley for his pastures but disregarded the social and religious implications of his choice. He lived among corrupt and sinful neighbours who soon got into serious trouble that engulfed his family and possessions. We learn some lessons about this place in which Lot decided to settle. First it was a place of servitude. They had been serving another king, Kedorlaomer for twelve years.

All the fruits of their labour would have to go as tribute to such an overlord. Second, it was a place of political instability. With four other kings (v.8), Sodom tried to rebel against their overlord, but they were soundly defeated, and their rich treasures carried away. Lot was not spared although he was just an ordinary sojourner. Read vs.11‐12 again. We should be careful the kind of company, business associates or friends we keep.

Practice/Word Application
So: Watch the choices you make because they have consequences and mind the company you keep. All that glitters is not gold.

Prayer for the week
