MESSAGE

In our passage today, we read of what probably the effect of living in Sodom had on Lot and his daughters. At Sodom, all forms of immorality and homosexuality would appear to be permitted. We can imagine homosexuality or sodomy (man having sex with man); lesbianism (woman having sex with woman); incest (sex between very close relations e.g. father and daughter) and other sexual perversions were the order of the day at Sodom.

The two daughters did not appear to find the idea of having an incestuous relation with their father repulsive. But possibly because the father still had some measure of righteousness, they thought their desire would succeed only if he was made drunk.

They executed their plan and it worked. Both became pregnant and had their babies, Moab and Ammon the ancestors of the Moabites and Ammonites respectively. This action was repulsive, repugnant and outright abomination then and now. Compare the influence of strong drink on Lot with the same on Noah (Genesis 9:19‐24). Meditate on Proverbs 23:29‐35 and see why you should keep away from strong drinks.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Keep me from putting myself in bondage to that which can ruin my life and testimony

Offer a prayer of faith in line with
Joshua 1:8; 2 Samuel 3‐5, Matthew 15
