TOPIC: ACT JUSTLY, HE IS COMING!
OPEN PRAYER: Make my life oh Lord a reflection of you as I study your word.
SCRIPTURE: Matthew 25:31-46
Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow? • Is there any warning for me to heed?
Following yesterday’s master-servants parable, Jesus now tells what the reality is going to be at the end of time.
Everyone will stand before Him (v. 32) and, instead of proving their ‘qualification’ for heaven, each person will be placed in his or her rightful place by the all-knowing and all-seeing Lord and Master. What, according to the passage, are the criteria the Lord will use to separate the people? What truth is God revealing to us in this passage? God told Israel what kind of fast was most acceptable to Him (Isaiah 58:6-7).
Compare this with the words of the King (Jesus) in vs.34-36 and 41-43. God is interested not only in our vertical relationship with Him but also in our horizontal relationships with others (see 1 John 4:20). It should be noted that eternal judgment is not just based on our good works, however important that is. Indeed, we are called to show love to all people by responding to their needs irrespective of who they are.
Our good works should stem from our genuine love for God and people who are made in God’s image and for whom Christ shed His blood. However, demonstration of love for the needy is not the criterion for salvation (see Ephesians 2:8-10).
Your response to the Gospel will determine where you will spend eternity but as James warns us, faith without deeds (works) is dead (James 2:17).
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
• Ask the Lord to help you have the right balance of faith and deeds. • Pray for an understanding of God,s priorities for these times.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with 2 Corinthians 4:18
18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
