MESSAGE
The final exit of the Israelites from Egypt left a trail of memories that could never be forgotten by both nations. It was the night the first-born sons of all Egyptians and their animals were executed when the Lord visited the land with the last plaque. Blood is the life of any creature (Leviticus 17:11), and by substitution, the blood of the lamb upon the Israelites’ doorposts made the Lord pass over them while the Egyptians who had no blood on their doorposts suffered loss (vs.21-23). Today, to be spared eternal death, the solution is not in observing any religious rites, but simply through the blood of ‘the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world’ (John 1:29). Whoever believes in Jesus Christ shall not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16).
What good examples can we learn from Moses and the leaders of God’s people (read v.28)? It was a night never to be forgotten in the history of the people (v.24). The event should be passed down as a memorial to their children’s generations (vs.25-27). How often do we share the story of our salvation with our children? Read vs.35-36 again and see how God stripped the Egyptians of their wealth for the Israelites to reap (Ecclesiastes 2:26). Moses and Aaron, who were warned never to appear before Pharaoh anymore, were now summoned for the release order. They were sent out not as men hated but as men feared.
