SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR JUNE 30, 2022 (GOD BLESSES THE HARD WORK)

TOPIC : GOD BLESSES THE HARD WORK

Opening Prayer: Grant me depth of insight, revelation and knowledge as I meditate on this passage, O Lord.

Scripture: Genesis 30: 25 – 43

Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

Jacob’s two wives, eleven children and flocks were God’s blessings for his hard and faithful work. He worked for God, not for Laban. Unwillingness of Laban to release him (vs.25‐28) confirms this. Being faithful in your work will surely attract the blessings of God (Colossians 3:23‐24). God’s blessings of good health, safety, family, healing, etc are more than money (vs.29&30).

We need hard work, faithfulness and God’s blessings in Africa for noticeable changes to occur. Divination is a way to predict future events by devilish powers. It is done by false prophets (Jeremiah 14:14) and unbelievers. Since the practice excludes God, it is a sin for believers to be involved. Many employers, like Laban, are reluctant to disengage faithful and hardworking people even when they are overusing and underpaying them.

See Genesis 31:7&41 to know why Jacob replied Laban, “Don’t give me anything” (vs.31a). Laban’s scheme to cheat Jacob is an act of injustice (vs.31b‐36). Why? It is amazing how our human nature is wired to cheat and deceive each other for personal gains (vs.37‐43). Are you being cheated by your employer in any way? Remember, the word of God encourages us not to pay evil with evil.

Take it to the Lord in prayer. He may guide you into another employment or even lead you to establish your own business.

Closing Prayer
• Lord, give us the grace to work for you faithfully in our homes, church, and places of work to attract your blessing.
